Hello Walter,

Your message is interesting in that you mention an Adolphus Waddell Umstead. My aunt, Josephine Graham Turner Umstead, married Adolphus Wardell Umstead as her second husband, 30 June 1946 in Alamance County, North Carolina. His parents were Charles Fisher Umstead and Addie Thompson. Wardell was born 17 August 1907 in Durham County. His folks moved to Live Oak, Florida around the 1930's; Charles dying there in 1934; Addie in 1939. One sister of Wardell, Ethel Umstead, had married Josephine's first cousin, John Bethel Graham, and had lived in Alamance County.

Neither Wardell nor Ethel had any children, but they were very much a part of our Graham family. I was just wondering if they somehow fit into your family at large, especially with the very similar name that Wardell had.

Best regards,

John Fox
