My name is Jason W. Umfress, the youngest of 5 from Jimmy and Jacque Umfress of the northeast MS area. My grandparents are Ruby Powell Umfress and the late Riley Umfress. Granddaddy had a couple of sibblings, Hattie, Kenneth, and a few others. I was just wondering if anyone could explain why Umfress is sometimes spelled with an f and sometimes with a ph?? Also, for you hard core Umfress genealogy buffs, what are we? European, Dutch, American Indian? Thanks for your time.
