I would be glad to give you the email for Lois but I don't have it. I have a very small amount of what she has as it deals with the part of my family that stayed in Indiana. My Grandfather was Thomas Sherman Umphress. He was born in 1866 and his father was Stephen Umphress Who was born 1826. His father, James is the first of the Umphress I have any info on. James was born 1800 and married Mary Ann Cox West who was 3 years his senior. Their children were Nancy, William, Absolom, Stephen, Thomas, Sarah, John, Hugh Green and James Umphress. There is a story behind Hugh Green. I will hold it to conserve space. When I was in my teens, (I am now 64) my grandfather stayed with us for a while. He had a brother who visited him at our house and he was visiting from Iowa. I believe his name was Emmett. He was born in 1873 and was my grandfathers youngest brother. I don't know how much space I can use here so I will ask you a question and we will get together later for more info. If your father is still living, ask him how far back in the line he can remember. If a name he gives you is on the list I have, we can take it from there. My Grandfather(Thomas Sherman) and his father(Stephen) are both buried in a cemetary in Indiana. I presently live in Louisville and am the third oldest son of my generation. Most of the Umphress clan, except my father lived into their mid to late seventies. My last surviving uncle died at 84. Let me know what you can and I hope I can help. Go to Yahoo and just type in Umphress in the search. You will be surprised at what you find. There are a ton of us in Texas. I know some are related to the Indiana bunch. I just don't know which ones. Sincerely, Dale
