Hi Thomas, Actually, I do have the Darter--Tarter--Daughters book. I bought it several years ago...but do not have the earlier one. It is a good book, just no longer up to date.... there have been many Darters and Tarters born, married and deceased since the book was published. I gather much of my information by exchanging with others of the Darter/Tarter family and those with surnames related to them. I find much joy in being able to tell Bob or Bill or Mary Darter the names of their g-grandparents. That brightens my day as much as tracking down a land deed, perhaps more so !! I have Sarah Susan Spurlock's parents...John and Frances Turman Spurlock and John's parents...and Frances Turman's parents. I do not have the file anywhere close to complete, but it is coming along bit by bit. I have a lot of Umberger/Umbarger information....just don't know how they all tie together as yet. I imagine they are much like the Darter/Tarter lines....same family, different spelling. I just put a posting on that forum to send the files to anyone who needs what I have gathered. It is difficult to track someone whose name should be Darter...only to find that his grandparents changed the spelling to Tarter or Tartar !! Of course, I cannot vouch for the accuracy of all that I have gathered, but that is what research is all about....verifying and documenting. I was doing some of that before I became totally handicapped and can no longer visit courthouses and cemeteries. Now, I can help supply names, dates and places and leave it to others who are interested to do the verification and documentation....all of the work of digging thru files. What I have on the Umbarger/Umbergers is just bits and pieces I have picked up here and there. I have also gathered information on many of the other surnames which connect to the Darter/Tarter clan....the Hounshells, Winingers, Umbergers, Weddles, Robinettes, Burtons and Repasses, etc..!! I even have some on your John Asa Brown family. In my spare time, I spend time on my Ashmore, Balch, Barlow, McGuire and Kinslow families. I have finally come to the sad realization that neither my children, my grandchildren, my neices nor my nephews have the slightest interest in genealogy. To them they are just names of people they have never heard of and will never meet. So....I am in the process of getting some of my files into the hands of people who do care about their families. In that way, at least some of my files will survive once I am gone and forgotten. That is why I have posted on some of the various forums....to get those files into the right hands when and where possible. I will also have files prepared for when my children and grandchildren do develop an interest in their roots, as I hope they will. Rose Notify Administrator about this message?
