Hey Rose,

I assume by your last post that you don't have either of the Darter/Tarter Books. I don't have the earliest one but I do have the second one "The Darter-Tarter-Daughters Family". This is quite a book. It came out in 1976 and has a lot about your William Henry Darter. Yes, Darters and Tarters are all the same.

Your Henry Darter, b. 1800, is a brother to my great grandmother, Sarah Tarter. Just a side note. I have a picture that is supposed to be Sallie Susan Spurlock, and she does look like her daughter, Sarah Tarter, so I am fairly sure it is her.

I notice that a lot of William Henry's descendants were in Ark. That's where I am. I have met some of the Darters here but not many. Also, have been to Wytheville twice doing researc. Once in 1979 and once in 2006. There is a ton of information at a college in Wytheville. I can't think of the name of it right now but it has a room called the Kegley Room, named after a Kegley who did a tremendous amount of research on families in Wythe Co. All his records are in this room.

If you would like, I can send you some information. Also can send you the ancestry of Susan Spurlock. I also notice that you have information on Darters that is not in the book I have. For instance, Henry's wife's name is not in the book.

I don't know that I have much at all on the Umbargers but will be glad to send what I do have if you want it. I did find another interesting record that I have of a deed of purchase of land by Mathias Tarter. Some of these records are so faded that I have got to find time to type them out while I can still read them.

Have to stop for now. Let me know if you want me to send the information where you might can get a Darter/Tarter/Daughter Book.

Tom
