Hi Harris Clark and Rose Williams,

Harris, I apologize for not answering your post of Dec. 2005. The truth is that I wasn't aware that you had answered my previous post concerning the Umbargers and Harkraders until I received a notice yesterday that Rose had answered and then I saw your answer when I looked to see hers. It's strange that I was notified of her answer but wasn't notified about yours.

I do appreciate both of you taking the time to answer. The reason that I wrote my previous post seeking descendants of David Harkrader and Molly Umbarger was that I have a copy of a document that was an agreement between David and Molly (his mother in law). The date is Oct. 17, 1833. This is an agreement for David to maintain and support Molly as long as she may choose to remain with David.

This is a very interesting agreement as it provides for David to build a house for Molly, etc. This agreement is witnessed by Christopher Brown, Jr., my gg grandfather.

I don't have the original as a number of originals of documents from Wytheville families are in the hands of my cousin. My grandparents left Wytheville, Va. in the late 1890s and came to Ark. At the time, they were living on the old Brown Plantation with his parents since both parents were older and needed his help running the farm.

Grandfather Brown had a brother in Ark. that, according to what I was told, encouraged Grandfather to come to Ark. So, they did, and brought quite a lot of things with them when they came. Unfortunately, some Civil War uniforms and many other things, including a German Bible that was passed down from the earliest Brown, burned in a house fire.

These documents that I refer to were in another home so we are fortunate to have them. Others may not like things like this as I do but I treasure them and wanted to find out if there was a descendant who wanted a copy of said agreement.

If either of you would like a copy of this agreement please let me know and I will get one to you.

Rose, may I ask how you are descended from the Tarters? I am not a descendant of the Harkraders and Umbargers though I am related to some because of marriages.

Tom Rowlett
