Jasper Leo Umberger Jr.
Jasper Leo Umberger Jr., 76, of Wytheville, Va., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the
Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. Funeral service will be held Thursday,
Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville, Va., with Pastor Steve Ridenhour. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. American
Legion Post No. 9 will conduct military graveside rites. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II and was employed by Wythe County Schools for 20 years. He was a
lifetime member of the Wythe County Rescue Squad and the American Legion Post No. 9.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jasper L. Umberger Sr.; and his brother, Donald Maynard Umberger. Survivors include his wife,Emma Grace Umberger of Wytheville, Va.; his mother, Mattie Ellen Umberger of Wytheville, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Maybelle Umberger and Sam Felton of Wytheville, Va.; and 14 nieces and nephews. The family will
receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 W. Main Street, Wytheville, VA 24382; or Holy Advent Lutheran Church, 3570 West Lee Highway, Wytheville, VA 24382. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va.,is in charge of the arrangements.
