SmythNews Whisman Virginia York Whisman, 92, of Marion, died Sunday August 17, 2003, in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She was born in Smyth County to the late John Edward and Anna Kate Morris York and preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Whisman. She was employed at Marion Laundry and Southwestern State Hospital in Marion for several years. She was a member of the Matson Drive Church of God and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Francis Marion VFW post 4667. Survivors include seven sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Margaret Whisman of Cleveland, Tenn., Jim and Evelyn Whisman of Alabama, Jack and Marie Whisman and Harold and Dee Whisman, all of Owosso, Mich., David Whisman of Saltville, Paul and Donna Whisman of Bluff City, Tenn., Curtis and Teresa Whisman of Henderson, Nv.; one daughter, Shirley Whisman Cook of Radford; one sister-in-law, June York of Tennessee; 25 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tues., August 19, 2003, from Bradley's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Whisman and Debra Weddle officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations can be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, 861 Goolsby St., Marion, Va. 24354. The family received friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
