Well Rachel Umberger is some form of cousin since she is an Umberger
but she is not in my direct line so I have a little info without
much details.
The place to start would be to see A. Umberger's 1981 book on the
Umberger family. She is on chart 36. You can use the chart to
get a baseline to work from. A. Umberger's work while it has some
problems and typesetting errors, yes he had a printing press in
his basement and would set all of the type for the charts by hand and
printed x number of copies of a page and broke it down and set the type
for the next page/chart, it is a good place to start.
Someone has said that the LDS centers has it on film but I believe
that copy is one of his first editions but I know that there are copies
in the libraries in Wythe County. The college is the best place
to work on your family in the county.

William Lee Phillips has put the A. Umberger book online and added
info from other sources.
You do not say any thing about info about the Darter family but
just in case, some of the early family are buried at
Mount Mitchell Church Wythe County and there is a write-up about
the church and Darter family in the WPA papers at
