My family traces Frederick Shafer marrying Wilhelmina Ulrich, both living in Weisenhesse bei Sontra, Germany, and raising cattle, probably from the mid-late 1700's. The 8 Shafer children are: Dorothea Elizabeth, Nicholas, Martha Elizabeth, Sophia Anna Elizabeth, Jacob Conrad, Christine, Katherine, and Anna Zabina.
-- Nicholas immigrated to Ohio and married Louise Cook.
-- Jacob Conrad (born in 1834) immigrated to Baltimore and married Hannah Fillmore Horn c.1870.
-- Anna Zabina immigrated to Baltimore in 1884 and married Ernest Bettenhausen in 1893.
