Hello David,
I am from Germany - same as you I am searching for information about Ukraine because one part of my family lived in Wolhynia in a small village near Luzk. I also plan to visit this place once. Even for me (I studied Russian Language at school for six years, 30 years ago) it is not possible to go to Ukraine without guide. I talked with different people Ukranian, Russian and Germans who know the Ukraine well. They all told me that it would be very difficould without any skills of Ukrainian Language to travel around. I can imagine this ...!
