Renting a car

I am considering renting a car when I am in the Ukraine to visit the village where my grandfather came from. I have rented a car in other 3rd world countries like Morocco. Has anyone done that in the Ukraine? Are the street signs in Cyrillic or will I be able to understand them? How hard will be be to find a small town near Kiev, in particular I am interested in a town named Rossawa or Rosava?
