selo/village Yamnytsia/Yamnitsia (Jamnica - Polish name)> Tysmenytskij raion/district> Ivano-Frankivska Oblast/Region (fomerly Stanislawow - Polish name) > Halychyna/Galicia.From late 18th century to 1919 this region was administered by ethnic Poles for the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE.Then it came under Poland's domain from 1919 - 1939.After WW2 it was part of the Soviet Union until 1991.
When GGrandfather was born, Yamnytsia had it's own Greek Catholic Church. The filial Roman Catholic Church was in Stanislawow.
Old Church records for the village should be available thru LDS/Mormon Genealogy Library.
Jerry has provided you w/an excellent link, Shtetlseeker, which will facilitate your search for the village.Yamnitsia is fair size place. There is natural gas in this immediate area, so there is some industry here as a result.

Vasyl's Mom can provide you w/a description of the village back then???She might even remember if there were any Dychakowsky's residing in the village when she was still a girl.
2871. Well done Roman. I enjoyed your history lesson. Only one thing I might disagree with you on, was the statement that there were few Ukrainians in most towns. My mother was born in Yamnitsia, just a few Kilometers from Stanislaw, or Ivana Frankivska and she states that there were more Ukrainians there than Jews or Poles. She was 16 years old when she left for Canada with her family. And She has a fantastic memory for someone her age.
