Just took a quick look at other Dykun/in's immigrating to the America's.Most were from the general Carpatho-Rusyn area, many from Bukowina.Some, listing themselves from Russia were from Podolya Region of now Ukraine.
Using Shtetlseeker (I know your ancestor was not Jewish, but this is a great search engine w/built in soundex/sounds like for searching villages in Eastern Europe), you will see that there are two possible transliterations for the village.It will be up to you to ascertain which Region of Ukraine, by searching thru Canadian records for the clue.
