wojiwodstwo/Region (post 1964 called Ivano-Frankivsk) > Galicia Province, administered by ethnic Poles for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The filial Greek Catholic Church was in Wolczkowce and the filial Roman Church was in Sniatyn. Immigrants traveling in this time frame were technically Austrian citizens. From 1919-1939 this region came under Reconstituted Poland's domain. Technically Poland had not existed as a geopolitical entity for the previous 125 yrs. Anyone immigrating during this time frame was considered coming from Poland. Post WW2 this region became a part of SSR Ukraine, which belonged to Soviet Union until 1991 when it became independent. Today selo/village Orelets (Орелець)still exists (it is clustered w/selo Ustia, w/which it shares the post ofc and village administration) > Sniatynskij raion/district > Ivano Frankivska Oblast > Ukraine, latest zip code 78345. This general area is frequently referred to as Hutsulschyna, Land of the Hutsul.
The Hutsuls are a micro-ethnic cultural group that had/has a distinct self-identity for a hundreds of years. They moved into the Carpathian highlands between the 14th and 18th centuries. Because of their isolation in the mountains and resistance to change they were able to preserve their traditional way of life, based on cattle and sheep herding and craftsmanship, despite falling under the rule of many different governments. Even the Soviets let them continue their traditional lifestyle and crafts. With a degree of autonomy and strong communities, they achieved a noticeably higher standard of living than other people in the region.
Church Records for Wolczkowce for 1871-1932 have been filmed - English is based in Latin Alphabet and there should be no problem recognizing surnames.
