Hi David and Hania

Thanks for the thoughtful responses.

David - the first births for both couple are about a year after marriages. House numbers are the same as they were brothers. Gregory remained in that house for all his 7 children while Lucas had 3 children in that house then moved to another house about 6 months before the birth of Gregory's second child (guess it was getting crowded!) Lucas' children all seemed to have survived (as far as death records go) while Gregory had 2 deaths (children born id 1869 and 1874).

Hania - Lucas and Anna continued to have children for 13 years (1874) after Catharina was born. Similarly Gregory and Marianna carried on for 15 years after Catharina's birth, to 1876 so it is possible that Lucas and Anna died and the 13 year old went to live with aunt and uncle. Unfortunately I have no death records (all this is based on available LDS records) showing this.

But - the problem may be solved.

I had looked at the birth year of 1861 for Catharina and it fit well with both families - no births in the same year. The LDS records also provide the day and month of birth as well as year. Taking the month into consideration I see that if Catharina were the child of Gregory and Marianna she would have been born 1 year and 1.5 months after the first child and 6 months before the birth of the third child. That's a pretty early premature birth. This third child went on to marry and have three children including my great aunt for whose family I am putting this information together.

In the case of Lucas and Anna, without Catharina they had a 7 year and 4 month gap between second and third children. With Catharina the gap between the third (Catharina becomes the third) and fourth is reduced to 4 years 10 months - still about double that existing for their other children but better than 7 years. Maybe they wanted to hold off because of the influenza pandemic?

Well I had pretty well agreed with David about the unlikelyhood that 5 mistakes were made in a row but now I think I'll stick with Lucas and Anna.

Thanks for your help - these kinds of problems add some variety to the compilation of the data.

Hania - I'd love to have done the Family Tree Maker database using more appropriate spellings but it was started with the Latin names and it's a lot to go through and change everything. Maybe I'll just make up a cross reference list.
