Hi Alexandra,

I hope you are still following this forum, ten years after your original posting. You are likely a great grandchild of John Spenchuk 1880-1951. Look for him as Herman Penthchuke, 36, from Bukowina, speaks Romanian, in the 1916 Census of Manitoba, Marquette Dist, Rural Municipality of Boulton. They later changed their names from Pentiluchuk to Spenchuk and moved to the Thunder Bay area. The first names were also changed so Herman=>John, Domenica=>Dora, Sevetta=>Elizabeth, Metro=>James, George and Mary, no change. Dora’s maiden name was Bulbuk. Elizabeth married Vasile Cohan in 1919. Descendants of Mary (1916-1998) live in Thunder Bay. My wife’s aunt is this Mary Spenchuk. Write me at

Steve Gray, Victoria BC
