First name variances

I had a grand uncle named Atanasz Kuchmak.

I have a photo of a tombstone inscribed Tanas Kuchmak (in Ukrainian).

Both grand uncle and tombstone are/were in the village of Zadneshivka.

Is Tanas a form of the name Atanasz?

Thanks for any feedback.

Ernie
