Thank you for info. Yes, the 1897 Russian census is at Kiev Archive, I have just found several references confirming this.Also, regarding religion of my grandparents, grandmother was catholic, don't know if Greek or not, but when she emigrated ultimately to California, she attended Roman catholic church.Grandfather we don't know, but believe he was Orthodox. My father remembers having to stand for the church services when he was small boy in Russia. Grandmother's name was Gerulis, grandfather's name Merkurieff. They fled Kharkhov, evacuated to Gallipoli with 1st Army COrp, then to Varna, Bulgaria, grandfather dies in Varna, then grandmother and my father emigrate to New York.
