Hi there! Yes, Lucia, Romuald's first wife, died in 1899 at the age of 29. Romuald did marry an Irish girl later on. Romuald and Lucia did have 4 children together, one of whom was my great grandmother. I have some information from Romuald's letters, and my mom and cousin have his diaries, and I'm slowly putting a timeline together.

I post on this board along with the Lithuanian, Canadian and Russian ones, but on the Ukrainian board because Lucia was born in Odessa (though her maiden name was Hirsch), and I believe that they most likely met there. Family lore indicates that they were both musicians in Ukraine, and may have entertained in the court of the Tsar. Information on Lucia has been remarkably scant. I suspect she was born in 1869 or 1870. She's actually the person I'm most interested in finding, because I believe she may have been Jewish, though her children were raised Roman Catholic-I'd love to learn if I have any Jewish heritage. She had a brother named Jacob Hirsch, but I don't know much about him either. Lucia and Romuald also went by the names John and Lucy Armes or Armes at one point. I'd dearly love to find Lucia's birthdate, family information, etc, but don't even know how to start a search for Odessa.

But yes, you are absolutely right, Romuald was Lithuanian from everything I can determine....

Thanks again!
