Hello Hania,

I have finally discovered why I couldn't locate my Doroshivtsi ancestors in the metrical records. Their surname was not documented as Iluk/Iliuk or some similar variation -- it was "Ilev"!!!

This leaves me somewhat perplexed yet intrigued by the substantial difference. The first time that this is noted is in the Hamburg passenger list, where the surname appears as "Illuk".

Do you think that there is a reasonable explanation for the change? I'm open to ideas, even if they're purely speculative.
