A number of yrs ago I encountered something similar, but I have looked hi and low and can't locate the resources I used for info obtained. Addtionally, there use to be a PDF file listing Austro-Hungarian military from Galcia killed in action. That too seems to have disappeared as well.

The direct family of any Austrian soldier, killed in action, was entitled to a small military pension. The military info was inserted into matrikal documents and was
used to provide validation for pension beneficiary.
