Hi William, thanks for that. I'll make the assumption based on the 1851 Census information that Sandra sent me that the 5 years old Ann is actually Eliza, it fits. I came across a reference to a document in the Lancashire Records Office stating "Manchester & Southlawton, Co Devon. "Instructions for motion that appeal against order of removal of Harriet Chadfield and her children be respited" QSP/3118/8 1840 6 Jan. Would this refer to them being in the workhouse? I guess I'm drawing a long bow to assume that it's Harriet and Ann and Eliza, but I suppose it's possible. Cheers, Sue Simmonds.
