I am a descendent of George and Elizabeth as well. I even have a photograph of them. Their son James was my great great grandfather.James' third wife Eliza Staples was my great great grandmother (his first two wives and children all died). It was James and Eliza's youngest son Robert who was my paternal grandmothers' father. My grandmother is still living very near to where her great grandparents settled. She is 88 years old, the 7th of 11 children Robert and his wife Margaret had. I'm sure some of the following is a repeat of information you may already have, but I thought I would share what I know/understand:
George'sparents were Stephen and Catherine Bolton, from Hollingbourne, Kent, England.George was born May 26,1801 in Hollingbourne.Elizabeth was born in Leigh, Kent on June 8, 1800.Rumour has it in our family that she was of royal blood and George was her coachman. They fell in love and married (the church they married in was Child Okeford in Dorset, England, which still stands - if you Google the church name, you can see modern photos). The marriage took place February 4, 1822.
As far as I have been told, George and Elizabeth were somewhat star-crossed lovers, she of noble birth, he ofa lower class. It's thought they immigrated to Canada to be together, although they were married in England and had already started a family.I had also heard tell that Elizabeth's father adored her and consented to the marriage and wanted her to be happy, so assisted them in their immigration to Canada.I know by the time they arrived, settling near Peterborough, Ontario, they had a son, George and a daughter Jane already, there is record of them, but there is also mention of a third boy in our family documentation. The two boys were feverish on the voyage across the Atlantic and died not long after arriving in Canada. Why there is no record of the second boy, I don't know.Perhaps he died on the voyage?I have yet to explore ship manifests.Nonetheless, Jane survived. And George and Elizabeth went on to become quite prodigious! The children after Jane are as follows:
George (no record of him marrying, which is why I assume he passed away in childhood)
Ann
Eliza
James (my great great grandfather)
Thomas
Martha
Sarah
Mary
So far I have been unable to make a connection between the royal family and the Hiscock's. In fact, I have no real information about Elizabeth Hiscock's family. Do you have anything you can offer?I see you spelled her surname Hiscox, perhaps our spelling is incorrect. The claim that Elizabeth was of noble birth could be a little bit of embellishment!!Does your family share a similar rumour?
I have a typewritten note by one of Jane's grand-daughters, one Jennie Clement that I can send to you by PDF if you'll send or post your email address. She describes the family history as she understands it, most interesting being the circumstances of Jane's husband before they met and married.Fascinating!!It's quite a tale.
By the way, I am emailing you from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Best!
