The following is from the DeBrett's Peerage (1938)

ROTHERMERE, VISCOUNT. (Harmsworth.) [Bt. U.K. 1910, Viscount U.K. 1919.]

       HAROLD SIDNEY HARMSWORTH, AC., 1st Viscount, and 1st Baronet, 2nd son of the late Alfred Harmsworth, Bar.-at-law (by Geraldine Mary, who d. 1925, dau. Of William Maffett, of Pembroke Place, Dublin), and brother of 1st Viscount Northcliffe (ext.) ; b. April 26th, 1868 ; an Hon. Bencher, Middle Temple 1928; formerly a Director of the Amalgamated Press (Limited); was Director-Gen. Roy. Army Clothing Depart. 1916, and Pres. of Air Council, Nov. 1917 to April 1918; is Ch. Proprietor of the Daily Mail,, the Evening News, the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Pictorial, etc., Vice-Chm. (formerly Chm.) of Associated Newspapers (Limited), and a D.L. for Sutherland; has endowed King Edward VI r. Chair of English Literature at Camb. Univ., Vere Harmsworth Chair of Naval History at Camb. Univ., and Harold Vyvyan Harmsworth Chair of American History- at Oxford Univ. ; cr. a Baronet 1910, Baron Rothermere, of Hemsted, Kent (peerage of United Kingdom) 1914, P.C. 1917, and Viscount Rothermere, of Hemsted, co. Kent (peerage of United Kingdom) 1919: m. 1893, Mary Lilian, who d. 1931, dau. of George Wade Share, of Forest Hill, having bad issue, of whom the el. son, the Hon. Harold Alfred Vyvyan St. George, M.C, b. 1894; Capt. Irish Guards; d. (of wounds in action during European War) 1917 (thrice wounded), and the 2nd son, the lion. Vere Sidney Tudor, b. 1895 ; Lieut. Roy. Naval Vol. Reserve; d. (killed in action during European War) 1916.

Arms,-Azure, two rolls of paper in saltire or, banded in the centre gules, between four bees volant of the second.

Crest,-Between two ostrich feathers or a cubit arm erect proper, the hand grasping a roll of paper or.

Supporters -On either side a gladiator fully habited and accoutred, the dexter holding in the exterior hand a sword, and the sinister holding on the exterior arm a shield, all proper, each charged on the breast with a fountain.

Residences,-Burghfield House, Dornoch, Sutherland; Stody Lodge, Melton Constable, Norfolk.

SON LIVING.
Hon. ESMOND CECIL, b. May 29th, 1898; ed. at Chatham House, Ramsgate, and at Eton is Chm. of Associated Newspapers, Ltd.; sometime Capt. R.M.A.; was an A.D.C. to Prime Min. at Peace Conference, Paris 1919; became Chm. of Newspaper Proprietors' Asso. and Pres. of Newspaper Press Fund 1935; sat as M.P. for isle of Thanet Div. of Kent(U) Nov. 1919 to May 1929: m. (Jan.) 1920, Margaret Hunam, dau. of the late William Redhead, and has issue living, Vere Harold Esmond, b. 1925,-Lorna Peggy Vyvyan, b. (Oct). 1920,-Esmee Mary Gabrielle, b. 1922. Residences,-Mereworth Castle. Kent; Warwick House, St. James's, S.W.1.
