Donna:

My great-grandfather was Alexander Gottlieb Uhl of San Antonio, Texas. My grandfather was Gilford Herman Uhl of San Antonio and my father was Billie Sam Uhl originally from San Antonio. We moved to Deer Park in 1969. My father passed away in May 2002 and my grandfather passed away in August 1998. Most of the names you listed were my grandfather's brothers and sisters. There were 14 children and he was the baby of them all. My sister did the Uhl genealogy for a college project in the early to mid 1980's. Her paper was published in a book and is located at San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena, Texas. My grandfather was able to give her a lot of information. She was also able to find the papers from the ship's registry where our great-grandfather came over from Germany. He was, I believe, 18 at the time, and in looking down the ship's registry was the name of a passenger, Catherine McElwane, age 10, who would become his wife and our great-grandmother. She was from England. I believe it was her that was the descendant of the Royal Family and gave up her title of "Lady" to marry Alexander, who was known as a commoner, but was also a member of the Royal Forrestry which was also a very high honor. I will see what other information I can find. I do know that Gustave, or Uncle Gus, was a member of the Wild Bill Hitchcock Traveling Show and the photo of the Wild West performers with Uncle Gus lying on the front row is hanging on the wall in Wild Bill's Musuem in Denver, CO. I had seen it from one my sister obtained and saw it again when I visited the musuem in 1990. They just do not have all of the names listed for the performers.

I will notify you of any other information later. Please feel free to e-mail me at german4house@earthlink.net. I do know my sister found photographs and my aunt, who still lives in San Antonio has a few photographs of our great-grandparents. I am trying to get copies of them. I also have another uncle and several cousins living in the San Antonio area still.

Please let me know how you are related.

Melissa Uhl German
