Article taken from CONFEDERATE VETERAN mag., dated 1916, page 179. { This is not my family, only post Confederate articles.} THOMAS UHL At his home in Dallas County, near Wheatland, Tex., THOMAS UHL died on Feb. 15, 1916. He was born in Allegany County, Md., Feb. 24, 1840 and thus lacked a few days of having completed his 67 year. He was left an orphan at the age of six years and went to Texas in 1858 with a herd of sheep. Enlisting in the Confederate army in Sept., 1861, as a member of Co. F, 6th Texas Xalvary, Sul ROSS'S Regiment, he served with this command until the close of the war. His comrades honored him many years with the position of President of the ROSS Brigade Assoc. When it was consolidated with Granbury's and ECTOR'S Brigades at Ennis last August, he was elected First Vice President of the new organization. He was a recognized leader in all the annual meetings. Comrade UHL married MISS EMILY BRANSON in 1867 and of their three children, a son survives with the mother. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. At the burial 26 Confederate Veterans acted as honorary pallbearers. In his death Dallas County has lost one of it's oldest and most highly honored citixens and his family a devoted husband and father; his comrades, one whom they will sadly miss.
