Thanks to the help from Paul, Ruth and John I believe I am almost there but not quite.

My path as defined in XP is C:\program files\microsoft office\office10\winword.exe

I believe the DOS path is C:\progra~1\micros~4\office10\winword.exe [Yes, it is "office10" not "office"]

There are two problems here:

1. The path through "office10" instead of "office" creates one more character than my UFT field will handle and

2. If there is an abbreviation of "office10" I can't find it. My XP system does not give an abbreviation per Ruth's method. Also, under my old Windows 95 system a right click on the mouse and a look under Properties would give the DOS address---not so with my XP system. But unless the abbreviation is less than 8 characters, my UFT field won't accept it anyway.

I hope there is a way out of this and not some fundamental limitation where UFT didn't anticipate paths with this many characters.

Any suggetions, I hope? Thank you very much for your help.
