I agree with you that Ultimate Family Tree was (and is) a great program. I have stuck with it through its development all the way from when it was known as Roots 3. I understand that it went through a series of purchases that resulted in it being bought out by the company that markets Family Tree Maker. They then discontinued support for Ultimate Family Tree.
It seems to me that there must be many thousands of similar people who are as angry as I over this total lack of consideration for the consumer. I can understand why a software company would not want to have two programs competing with each other. However, to simply discontinue development of Ultimate Family Tree without devising a means to import data into Family Tree Maker is nothing short of outrageous. It has taken me thousands of hours to get my family's information into Ultimate Family Tree. Now, apparently, there is no way of bringing it all across in any other program. If I am wrong, please somebody let me know! Eventually, even the Foxpro patch won't be enough to allow UFT to work on computers down the road.
Alternatively, if enough people clamour over this issue, maybe the people who bought Ultimate Family Tree will see what a bad business decision it was to disaffect a large group of potential customers. They should either resume development of UFT or develop a means of importing ALL of the data from UFT to Family Tree Maker. We should be able to do something concrete and not just yell that we're mad as hell and aren't going to take it anymore! However, yelling is a good start.
If anyone else feels the same as I do, please post your comments.
