1. Use UFT 2.8 and export/import GEDCOM.
2. Upgrade to UFT 3.0 and hope it fixes bug.
3. Move over to TMG and hope if fixes bug.

Which is your best choice:?
None of the above.

1. The missing places are no longer in your UFT project. Therefor you cannot repair them using GEDCOM. Besides, you will lose lots of other items that GEDCOM does NOT copy.

"Missing Place Name" most often shows up when you backup the project but don't backup
the libraries.

"Missing Place Name" also comes when you have more than one project and delete a place name in one project. Since there is only one place library for all projects (2.8 and earlier), when you delete a place from one project you have just deleted it from all projects.

2. Won't fix the problem because you don't have the places in the place library. They are gone. If you have a usable backup you can restore the project from that backup. If you do that, you will lose all changes you have made in UFT since you made the backup.

3. If the place is missing, moveing to TMG cannot help because the places are not in the UFT project.

4. You could go through each record in the project and insert the place names.

5. You could transfer to TMG and goe through each record and instert the place names.

6. If you stay with UFT, and replace the place names, read the manual or Help button files next time you do a backup. Try to learn how use the program before trying to backup the project. Study how to restore a project before you try to use a backup that you made.

UFT has lots of unpleasant quirks. Most are not bugs. Some are bugs, bugs that will never be corrected. Quirks are a result of awkward programming. I used UFT since it came out. Now I am quite happy with TMG.
