The Master Genealogist as a solution?

Someone in an earlier post suggested moving to The Master Genealogist (TMG) since UFT is is now a dead end. I've got some sort of "bug" in my UFT 2.8 database that's kept me from entering new data for several months since I want to fix the problem first. I've been debating on which of the following would be the best approach:

1. Use UFT 2.8 and export/import GEDCOM.
2. Upgrade to UFT 3.0 and hope it fixes bug.
3. Move over to TMG and hope if fixes bug.

The bug seems to rear its ugly head whenever I generate a Family Journal Index report. After complete, it appears to wipe out my Place Names data base since "missing place" appears instead of the real place names.

Any suggestions out there?
