Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

" I don't want to get too far only to lose all my work."

No problem - even if the developer should stop supporting UFT you can still export your work in GEDCOM format which any other respectable genealogy program will accept. Just be sure to use "check" and to do regular backups of your work. Join a user group (see "Ultimate Family Tree User Groups" on the UFTree home page).

"Needless to say being new--"

http://www.uftree.com/UFT/Nav/howtossetting.html (or see "Setting Out" under "How To's") on the UFTree home page) is an excellent tutorial for a beginning genealogist.
