In FoxPro 2.6 and earlier, there is a maximum number of array elements of 65,000. This means that, for example, if you had an array that stored 8 fields for each person, and there were 9,000 people, the program would eventually crash upon trying to create the 65,001 array entry, giving the misleading error message you are getting.

I've run into this limitation several years ago with TMG, but I believe they've worked around it with later versions.
