Re: Important news regarding future of UFT

So, I have a situation / question for all you UFT (and TMG) users:

I'm new to the genealogy scene (just started doing my family history in January of this year, and only have a few hundred people entered - I'm currently using PAF5), and have been looking for the best software program for my needs. I've been trying a bunch of different programs (PAF5, FTM, GenoPro, BK, KKN, Legacy3, etc.), and am still searching for the best. I heard great things about UFT, so I thought I'd look into this one, too.

So, I just purchased a copy of UFT Platinum off of eBay (new, unopened box), for a whopping $8.74. And, I find out that UFT has been discontinued! What should I do?

Should I open the box, and use it (it is, after all, still a great program, right), and hope that Genealogy.com comes up with something in the future that will support UFT? Should I re-sell it on eBay, and not even bother to open it? Should I use it for a while (maybe a year, or something), and then upgrade to TMG? Or, should I fork over the $79, and upgrade to TMG now, and scrap UFT before I even get a chance to use it? OR, should I just stick with PAF5, and forget both UFT and TMG?

What do you more-experienced users think (I reserve the right to accept or ignore any and all advice given ;-) )???

Thanks!
