I use the 640 x 480 setting for everything else on my computer.

There were (are?)many genforum sites that do NOT use the extra column on the left. Therefore I think it likely that UFT and TMG don't have to have them either.

Yes 800 x 600 works. Using that configuration gives 2 1/4 inches to the useless column on the left and the remaining -8 inches to the messages.

Leaving the screen at 800 x 600 creates problems on other websites and software programs. Not only is the text quite small but the right side slider is often unavailable.

I am not even sure that a larger monitor would help. I think I want an 19 inch flat panel monitor, but then, who doesn't? (grin)
