>> I have now learned that Legacy 3.0 , >> an unrestricted version which can >> also be updated for a minimal amount, >> is being given away for free which >> might even be a better bet. This is true. But you're speaking now to the manufacturer of TMG so I'm not the best to offer opinions about Legacy. If you have used UFT's more advanced features like roles, sentence templates, source templates, etc., then you should investigate the extent to which any potential destination program supports those features. To the extent that they might (and I don't know any except TMG which does), you should also investigate whether you can transfer your data there. TMG reads your UFT data directly using its GenBridge import feature whereas other programs have to resort to GEDCOM which is much less complete and accurate. There is a chart called "Transferring data from Ultimate Family Tree (UFT) with GEDCOM and GenBridge" which itemizes all of the data types in UFT and identifies which ones will be lost if you transfer using one method or the other. There are more than 200 data types which TMG will transfer but GEDCOM will not. You can see or download the chart from http://www.whollygenes.com/html/uft2tmg.htm We created it, of course, but I haven't heard any other vendor or user claim that it is less than 100% accurate.
