UFT to TMG Prob. w/Short Place

This would only be of interest to those UFT convertees who have imported
the short place from UFT to TMG.

There has been several messages concerning the mismatch of the short place
name with the detail information reported by several UFT users. This has
also now been noticed in my data :>(

I have spent the day trying to determine the cause and think I have
isolated the problem. I have several backups that did not have the problem
so I was able to use them to verify my findings.

The problem appears to be connected to making changes to place information
in the Tag window or adding new places in the Tag window. Actually making
changes could and does in most cases create a new place for the Master
Place List (MPL). The first time a new place is created, the short place is
blank which is what I would expect as TMG does not automatically create the

inserted rather than leaving the short place blank. I have been able to
reproduce this consistently on several of my backups which were free of the

I have reported my findings to Bob Velke at TMG.

So, in summary, as Myrnice as so wisely recommended <g>, I would agree with
him and recommend that you not import the short place name if you are still
in the process of importing your data. For those who have already
committed to TMG and have done a large amount of editing, as I have, you
are probably better off deleting the short places. You could correct them,
but any changes you make in the future will result in incorrect data again
until a fix is released.
