It is interesting to see the different directions that the UFT users are taking as they search for a new platform. I will probably purchase a copy of 32 bit TMG when and if the first bug fix comes out.

I have been trying to understand the rationale of the heavy users and fans of different types of programs since the demise of UFT was announced.

One thing that has become apparent, particularly among the most prolific users of image media, is that those users, who tend to use FTM, may have compensated for shortcomings in the programs they use by having a personal ability to organize, file and recall huge amounts of data from outside the program.

PAF 4.0 has an ability to link long filename images to any drive you please, and it is a fairly intuitive program. Factor in that LDS is giving it away, and it becames a major entry level program. It also exports GEDCOMS in ANSI, although the GEDCOM standard still says officially that this is verboten.

Family Origins exports GEDCOMS in ANSI and ANSEL, but sometimes gets a little confused and labels CHARSET in the GEDCOM with the incorrect coding.

The first program that combines marketing prowess with true multilanguage support and intuitive full media linking will probably capture the market. Assuming, of course, that they put out decent reports exportable to MSWord.
