For what it's worth! If you are using IE5, if may help if you update IE5 by downloading and installing Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 1. After you do that, download and install the critical security updates for the year 2000. Go to Tools/Windows Update and you'll see a list of available updates. Once you download and install the 5.01 Service Pack, the list of what you still need to do will be greatly reduced because the list will be tailored to your computer, and many of the programs are included in the service pack. A fix for the locking up problem might be in it.
(I do not have any technical expertise, but I say this because a Microsoft technician just walked me through the whole procedure. I am using Windows 95, not 98.)
