Use of record number already being used

The other day I tried to add a child to parents already on the net. I blithely added my data and then noticed that my own vitals were within the record, my daughter as child, no siblings, but dates, and the parents were for the person I had entered. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out the problem but realized they had used #1 record number and that is mine. I tried my darndest to get rid of that person on the record. Thought I had so tried entering them again, same problem. I had shut off the computer in between too. Then thought I would put this woman's husband in and try adding her that way, and he also came up using #1. The computer was shut down, then tried again and this time an unknown person came up on #1. They are all listed on the Individual List by Record #. I really need to put some additional data in my machine, but I hardly dare turn it on. Hope it holds together long enough to transfer it to TMG when it arrives. Does anyone have any suggestions? Have I done anything unaware of what I could have done to cause this? I tried putting a number that hadn't been used, but didn't seem to do any good.
Maybe blue can help. Thanks. Sheila
