The answer that you were given is the correct one. Events are sorted by the sort date and do not stay in the sequence entered. The sort date does not appear on any report so can be used to put the events in the proper sequence. It is used most often to keep the birth order of children correct if the order of birth is known but dates are not. I normally don't worry about the marriage and death events appearing before birth on the screen. They will print in the proper sequence in the reports regardless. But some people like to see the correct sequence on screen and the only way to do it is with the sort date.
