Be sure to "save as" a BACKUP, and be sure to include the libraries as well as the project. It sounds as if you are doing a "save as" of a project. Be sure to change the "Save file as type" to "Backup."

Then play with your project. If you foul things up, then restore from the backup (open and select your backup file, again changing the file type to "backup").

I recommend keeping several backup versions, since sometimes glitches don't show up for a couple of backup generations.
