Bingo! They only need ONE data-entry program. They just needed to remove the competition. Now, back to the business of reselling free data. You have to like the business model. Consider, SELL people a "cute" little data-entry program; encourage them to "share" their (often unresearched) data and then sell the "shared" data back on CD. We're talking big-time cash cow here.
As you say, informed researchers don't buy such stuff so... It's like the entry-level PC business all over again. Too bad the FTC didn't block the "merger".
