I don't see why you, or anyone, should expect guarantees - for anything...there are none in this life, except...first you live, then you die...most everything in between is a crap-shoot.
Further, if you feel satisfied with the least capability for recording your genealogy data, why not use NOTEPAD or some other editor? Or, even simpler, keep your records the old-fashioned way - on paper. Or, if you like, use a database product and design your own genealogy application - you can then apply bug fixes and enhancements whenever the need arises.
I would like to say here that I am not mocking you, or anyone else, for choosing to go with free software, but don't do it if you think "free" means that it will go on working thru the years as software and hardware evolves - there are no guarantees - the computer world can change dramatically in a short period of time.
I have to say too that it slightly annoys me when I see statements like...
"Is there a viable market for any 'High Quality' genealogy software when most people..."
"most people" really means you, doesn't it?
As for...
"After all who of us can deny not giving away copies of our UFT to friends or relatives."
I suspect you are, again, talking about yourself. I can assure you that I have not given away my copy of UFT, or any other software I have purchased, to anyone, nor have I taken a copy from someone else.
