All software companies charge for new versions. There is a difference between a new version and a bug fix. New versions always have new features that were not in previous versions. Bug fixes for UFT have always been available for download for free. A software company has to keep creating newer versions or else they will go out of business. Relying only on new customers to generate revenues is not feasible.

Considering that I paid over $200 for the first version of the program that was the predessor to UFT the current pricing is not out of line. Current users get a discount for buying the new version.

As for the contents of 1.0a, it's been so long ago I can't comment. There should be a readme file with it to tell you what bugs were corrected and new features, if any.
