The items are marked in RTF for indexing so indexing becomes a function of Word or whatever wordprocessor you are going to. Therefore, the indexing is correct, and any changes will be reflected in the index. In WP I know you have to regenerate the index after editing, not sure about the process in Word, it may be same, in other words not adjusted automatically.
