G'Day Elizabeth,
It's a PERSONAL thing. Personal Choice. It is impossible to design a set of charts, for example, to suit the needs of EVERYBODY. Consequently, some people tend to shop around among the range of Genealogy programs available and use what they consider the best bits of each to make THEIR book in their CHOSEN style. The same applies to printing the data to a word processor. People like to have their OWN character come through their writings. I don't care what Genealogy Program you have, it will NOT give YOUR personal 'tone of voice' or 'personal character' to the text or feel of the story UNLESS you do at least some editing on the word processor.
That is why SOME people choose to use a collection of programs rather than just be tied to one.
It still does not change MY OPINION that UFT is the BEST Genealogy Program around for a Serious Researcher and Source Recorder.
I like and use some of the charts in FTM because, in my opinion, they are better than some of the charts in UFT. However, ALL my research data is stored on UFT along with my sources and notes.
Ultimately, it is YOUR PERSONAL FAMILY HISTORY, so it is YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE what Program or set of Programs YOU CHOOSE to use to give you YOUR preferred result.
Hope this helps you decide what to use and which way to go.
Michael V. McCarthy
