Quirk in Index Entries (RTF output)
Posted by: Pierce Reid Date: April 20, 2000 at 06:48:14

I noticed something which I call a "quirk" rather than a bug, since part of the problem is mine.

If I have two spaces within someone's name (generally my error), when I produce a FJ report directed to WordPerfect, with index tags, that person will likely get two types of index entries. Most seem to have the extra embeded space character but some have the extra space removed. This means I have two entries in the index: one with the double space and the other without. Going into WP's Reveal Codes, it looks like the "no double space characters" entry is attached to an event sentence using the pronoun, e.g."He married ...". Where the name is given in full, the index tag has two space characters, just as I entered it.

In some ways this is a useful "feature", since I will now go back and correct the name. However, it was a result I did not expect.
