Maggie, et al,
In WordPerfect, you can specify where you want endnotes to be placed: put the Insertion point where you want the endnotes, then go to Insert, Footnotes/Endnotes, then select Endnotes and Endnote Placement. You then have the option of restarting endnote numbering after the placement, or continue the previous numbering sequence. Then select OK and Close. This will probably not work to create notes at the end of each page, since the insertion point will change as text is modified or the number of notes changes. And you would have to do it for every page, every time you recreated the report.

In Word, you don't seem to have as much flexibility in endnote placement (just at the end of what they call a section or a document), but you can convert endnotes to footnotes (properly). Select Insert, Footnotes..., Options, and Convert. You can then ask that the endnotes produced by UFT be converted to footnotes. You can also have the footnote numbering restart on each page, if you wish. (This is using Word 97.)

I personally like endnotes to be collected at the end of each FJ report, when I have several that I put together into a single report. If there are a lot of notes, I will start them on a new page, otherwise I like to keep them on the last page of the report. And I adjust that by inserting a new page before the "Notes and References" title where the notes go on to a second page. I generally put the index at the end of the entire document. I have created a standard WordPerfect file that defines a two column index with a title, header, and the appropriate font selection, which I insert into all documents needing an index.
