Actually, you can download a copy of the ROOTS III GEDCOM utility from the following ftp site:
The file is called R3GED.ZIP. Unzip it to a temporary directory. Instructions for creating a GEDCOM file from your ROOTS III database are included in the zip file.
If you don't want to read the instructions (the instructions are for the entire utility and are quite lengthy), here are some simple instructions.
In the directory in which you unzipped the R3GED files, put your ROOTS III .EDB file that you want to convert and any .TXT or SRC files that you have for that database in the same directory. Then, go to that directory in DOS and type:
Replace "basefile" with the actual name of the EDB file. For example, if your datbase is called SMITH.EDB, you'd type:
You'll end up with a SMITH.GED file in that same directory. There are a bunch of other commands that you can add to that basic line that will do other things, but you'll need to read the GEDCOM.TXT to find out what they are.
If you have problems, post another message here and I'll see if I can help you out.
